Basketball Hoop Height for 4, 5, 6, and 7-year-old Kids American Sport Education Program (ASEP) officially recommends that you start with a 6 to 7 feet tall basketball hoop. Our suggestion would be to stick with 6 feet.

For youth basketball, the hoop height varies based on the age group. The American Sport Education Program recommends 6-foot hoops for Kindergarten through 2 nd grade, 8-foot hoops for 3 rd and 4 th grade, and 9-foot hoops for 5 th grade.
